What I've Been Up To

Often a project can start with a single inspiration. A "fleur-de-lis" for example. It can start with a wonderful antique sconce that a client was lucky enough to find and keep for her long planned kitchen remodel.

It can carry over into other things. Like the little fleur-de-lis edge on a chandelier.

Or a carefully placed accent tile.

The accent tile can lead to more tile. A color palette and tile design may follow.

That little bit of black and that little bit of French may lead to a black French range.

It may lead to carefully selected hardware.

And special clocks.

It may lead to many hours of memories in a new long planned kitchen.

You never know what a single inspiration can lead to.

Just a little taste with more to come later!

Katie, what a great post. It is amazing to hear how people find that "one" thing and how it change everything...a room, a house, a life.

Clever post, beautiful kitchen. The style of the post reminded me of the book 'If You Give A Mouse a Cookie'!

This is just spectacular, and I totally agree... one thing you love can provide inspiration for miles! If you can't tell from my blog (Fleur De-Licious) I'm in love with the fleur de lis : ) I have it allover my home & can't seem to get enough.

What a gorgeous Parisian clock, perhaps a replica of one found in a train station!

Thank you all so very much for your very kind words! It just makes my day.:) When I work to make a client as happy as possible, it is VERY nice to know a project is appreciated by others as well! Of course, my job becomes so much easier when I have a wonderful client!

Am I a horrible mother for not having heard of the mouse and cookie story? I will have to look it up!

Hello Katie,
I love your blog and am obsessed with your kitchen.
Is there any chance you could tell me about your kitchen faucet? Do you like the restaurant style?
What brand did you choose? Sorry to be a stalker, but your kitchen is just the best ever!
Thanks,
Jennifer

Hi and welcome prize!
I LOVE my restaurant faucet. I do alot of flower arranging and pot filling, so the spray part of the faucet is great for that. (I figure a pot filler at the stove is a bit redundant since you are going to have to move the pot at some point to empty out the water anyway. And there is no basin under a pot filler to catch any leaks! Hmmm....maybe a good subject for a post?!)

Anyway...I like it lots. It is by Blanco and about half the price of the very spendy Dornbracht model (which I also like!)

Best-
Katie

Thank you, Katie, for the info. on your faucet.
I will check into the Blanco model. I can't wait to see more pictures of your home. I will send you a picture of my finished kitchen...hopefully in the next month or so. One last question: on your handle hardware, what size/finish do you recommend? Thanks again for all the inspiration!

Thank you so much for the inspiration. After living in our farmhouse for the last 3 years we are left with one project which is our kitchen. Can you tell me who the range is by??

katiedid said...

Again, Thank you all for the lift!

Welcome Pink Pig! The range is by Le Cornue and is their more affordable version: Le Cornie Fe. Similiar price range to a Viking Range. Very beautiful I think!

Very nice. I love all the pictures and ideas - but the thing I love the most is what you say about how one little thing becomes the catalyst that informs other choices. It could be anything - but if paid attention to, it inspires and enriches all the other choices.

Brava!
