"C" and Me...OK...not just me!

I received a very kind email from my friend Diane Dorrans Saeks ( renowned author and blogger of The Style Saloniste) a couple of months ago asking if I would like to contribute a few words about where I like to go to "get away from it all" for a travel piece she was writing for C Magazine. I was thrilled to be asked of course! But, sometimes things do not necessarily come to fruition, so I tried to keep my hopes in check. But then I received an email from the magazine itself asking where could they send a copy! At that point, I realized it was going to happen!

A couple of days ago, I received some very kind emails from some blogger friends who had seen the piece. The excitement level went up another couple of notches. I just received my copy ( and yes, I had been waiting for the clunk of a magazine to fall from my mail slot so I could rush over and see if it had come!) and I have been unable to stop smiling for ....well, I'm still smiling! I was so honored to be included with the likes of Suzanne Rheinstein, Anne Fougeron, DelRae Roth, Christina Rottman and Martin Muller.

Here is the round-up of where these "Escape Artists" get away:

This particular issue is a "must have" for many reasons . Ken Fulk is featured in an article by Deborah Schoeneman, that covers his career and design style. Did you know he designed the home of the co founder of One King's Lane, Greg Pincus? He is also a self-described "hugger". I love a good hug! Great article with many project pictures by Mr. Fulk.

Mr. Fulk himself, and his SOMA Loft below:

There is also a feature by Christine Lennon about the five year old design firm, Commune, and two of four partners: Pamela Shamshiri and her brother Ramin and how they worked together to design the home of Ramin and his wife Donna Langley.

The house captures their love of Moorish architecture and shows off a decidedly California vibe. Here are the brother and sister in the home's courtyard.

Such a great issue! I am going to settle in and savor my C magazine and have a cup of tea for the evening.

Thank you so very much C Magazine and Diane Dorrans Saeks for making my day!!!!

Thanks all! It was so much fun to participate, and an honor to be asked! After reading the getaways of the others, I think it is time to stray a little farther from the nest! Perhaps Morocco to visit Maryam? Hmmm.

HI KATIE-

Beautiful presentation of 'all things C'.

I was so happy to write about you in C -- and to recognize your great achievement with your blog.
Let's just say you have made a great impression although it has to be said, sorry, that Sacramento is not quite--yet--a center of style. You make it look as if you are in a swirl of style.
Oh...and watch out for the next issue.
Lisa Borgnes Giramonti is in it...can't say what...so I am writing about all the top CA bloggers.
We are a small but mighty group of design bloggers out here on the West Coast.
cheers,www.thestylesaloniste.com

Hi Diane!
Thank you so much for the write-up! Alas, it is true that Sacramento does not compare to San Francisco, New York, L.A. etc......but many of us are working hard to change that! It is part of the reason I began blogging: to join a community of design and art minded people. I am originally from Pasadena, in SoCal. Sacramento reminds me of Pasadena in it's earlier days, and we are seeing a aimiliar Renaissance here. Unfortunately, the recession is throwing wrench into the works, but I will keep posting about some of the design happs here in town. One of the great things is the addition to the Crocker Art Museum which is under construction as we speak. It was designed by Gwathmey Siegal and Associates and will be quite an addition to the landscape. More to come, I promise!

You may stray further from the nest, but you would be hard pressed to match anything approximating the sheer beauty of Mendocino. I have loved that very special place for years and continue to love it still for its refusal to change. As fate and good fortune would have it, I'm leaving for Mendocino on Wednesday.

I saw your piece in the magazine and knew of your blog through shared blogging friends. We also seem to have shared destinations. (I had a home in Sierra Madre for years and spent a great deal of time in Pasadena and appreciated your reference to Sacramento as being like Pasadena once was.) As a northern Californian blogger (San Rafael in Marin County), I may not specifically focus on design, but am committed to enhancing the aesthetics of fine living and all it entails.

Congratulations on your media debut. May it be the start of more to come.
