I think some may miss this because, let's face it....we may not have the desire or the funds during this economy to get every magazine we want to. But I didn't want you all to miss an article about the incredible Michael S. Smith. So I am suggesting that you may want to take a look at Architectural Digest this month.

Michael Smith has designed a house in Rancho Mirage, California....just outside Palm Springs, and it is not what one might expect of a desert house. No Brat Pack terrazzo. No Hollywood glam.
Michael has his own take on things. A bit of quiet comfort. Luxury, yes...but not one of those places where you have to keep your feet off the couch.

I never tire of his style.
Not a lot to add to the AD article....just passing it along.

Also...check out the section shown on the cover "Shop Like a Designer". Well, most of us can't really shop like this, but it is fun never-the-less to see where the top guns shop. There is a very comprehensive source list at the very back of the magazine with websites. So thanks, AD, for that!

That looks like a beautiful home...WHAT is that behind the table? A painting...a print...a curtain? Any clue?
Hi Linda!
Funny you should ask! It is a 1958 painting by Morris Louis called "7 Bronze". Michael says it "creates another window in the space"....so you were right to wonder!
ooh i just bought this mag this morning and NOW i cant wait to devour it! thanks for the great pictures....
that home is amazing.
I read this yesterday. A marvelous issue. Much better than their usual, I thought!
His work is fantastic and much to be admired and studied. I've also heard he just used some of Suzanne Kasler's Candler Beds in a recent project...nice clean lines.
Katie - thanks so much for the heads up- I would have missed this and been sorry.
Im drooling over that canopy bed. Im not usually into fabric on a canopy bed, but that bed is gorge!!
Katie,
Thanks for this heads up. I don't typically read AD so I''m glad you shared. Will get a copy.
Thanks for the gorgeous pictures. Love the style :)
-Wilhelmiina-
all too often, my copy of AD sits on the sideboard in the office and rarely gets read. bless you for the head's up. I am a well-documented fan of wondrously talented Mr. Smith . . . I can't wait to see a new project.
Cheers,
Scot
Amazing rooms!
The windows in no 2 and generally love everything in pic 3!
Thanks for tip about the article.. Will check out though not a regular reader of AD.
Have a lovely end to the week.

So perfectly understated. I wonder who the clients were? They also must have great taste and international experience. Love this style. The credenza/sideboard in the first photo is great. Thanks for the heads-up.
We get AD at the office but seems we're not patient enough to read it. But the designer mini-mag? So excited to get that! Worth picking up for that alone! Marija
Linda, yes that really got my attention! I love Morris Louis's art works . The periwinkle gray chairs are fab!!

Hi Katie... I adore Michael Smith's work...as you can tell from my blog. I just reposted my first first blog, which was about Michael Smith one post ago. I have this AD magazine, but haven't looked through it yet... now I can't wait! Thanks!
Katie,
The second photo...that table base is awesome. Do like the sofa at the end of bed. Going to measure and start looking.
Lovely post. Thank you.

Thanks for the heads up. Mine is under a stack of papers on my desk....I'll have to pull it out tonight after my daughter is in bed!
Katie,
Thank you so much for sharing this! Michael is a great artist isn't it?
