I called my Mom last night just to chat, and she told me a story that at first made my heart skip a beat before it made it swell. My Mom at 84 is very self sufficient, lives on her own....but still...I worry. When she told me she had had a fall, my first thought was if she was seriously injured....broken bones, concussion. As she went on to tell me what happened, my panicky feeling went away. She had slipped on some gravel in the planter bed between the sidewalk and the curb as she was walking to a doctors appointment. She ended up falling into the street gutter. (That is when my heart skipped and my breath caught.) But she said a boy about 17 who had been hanging out with his buddies on the street corner ran over to help her. Another man had also seen her fall and rushed over. Between them they helped her up. The boy refused to leave until he knew she didn't have anything broken and that she wasn't dizzy. The older man walked her to her doctors office and stayed to make sure they bandaged the big scrape on her arm. By the end of her story, my heart was full, my throat was closed, and my eyes were brimming. She did not get their names.
There are wonderful and caring people in the world.
And to these two men in particular, I offer you my heartfelt thanks.
I wish I knew your names.
Thank you

I'm so glad your Mom is alright...it's nerve wracking having parents get older...especially if they live far away.
Blessings for these two men (and one so young too)...nice to know chivalry still exists. xo J~
How wonderful to hear! I can identify as my mother is elderly, as well.
My faith in human nature continues...
How wonderful! and yes, sometimes we have to remember that there are really GOOD people, but with bad and negative news all the time, its hard. What a great story and I'm happy your Mom is ok! :))
Katie, I so understand. My ninety -one year old father fell this week while going for his afternoon walk with my mother. A kind stranger came to his assistance and made sure that he and my mother were all right. Best, Kendra
What a great story....and very impressed the 17 year old thought to react....he's been raised well! Glad your mom is ok!
Thank you for sharing....with all of the negatives that seem to catch the most attention, it gives me hope when I learn of the true goodness of the human spirit. I'm glad your mother is fine.
Thanks everyone! I worry every day I am not doing enough. It is so nice to know that a complete stranger, and one that is only 17!!! feels compelled to lend a hand. Chivalry indeed!!! They are both daily heroes in my book.
First, I am so glad your mom is okay. Second, I don't think we are going to hell in a handbasket, I just don't think we hear the good stories, like this one, enough. It is nice to know these gentlemen went above and beyond just asking if your mom was okay and made sure she was okay. If only everybody did what a wonderful thing it would be.
I can only imagine how you felt Katie! I feel so lucky that my parents are rather young and very healthy. So glad that there are gentlemen amongst the old and young.
Also love the look of flowering artichokes.
Cheers,
Claudia
So glad to hear your mother is okay. It is so nice to know that there are angels out there!
Katie this really caused me to pause and I too had a catch in my throat as my parents are both 80 now.
There is so much goodness in the world that goes unnoticed and these are our everyday heroes.

So happy those helpful people were there to aid your mom. Thanks for sharing this uplifting story & spreading the positiveness.
What a huge blessing! It's nice to hear the sweet stories in life.
My mother is also 84 years old and very self-sufficient. Her neighbors across the street are a wonderful family who always keep an eye out for her. Being that I live 4 hours away, it is comforting to know she is being watched out for.
It's always good to hear stories like this and be reminded that there is still so much good in the world amidst all the craziness.
Thanks for sharing. So great to hear about good in every day life.
This is a wonderful reminder that there are great folks out there who care. My mom is 87. I worry too. I hope if she has a fall, folks will rush to her side if I can't be there. Thanks for sharing.
