The construction of our patio fountain has been the biggest project going on at our house lately....at least as far as home improvement is concerned. (Perhaps the bigger project has been shopping for my oldest daughter's foray into the world of higher learning....i.e. dorm room decor....but that is a story for another time.)
Back to the fountain.....the brown coat is on the wall! It looks so much better already with the concrete block covered up. Even the grey color looks better than the blinding white paint that was on the block wall. The guys are coming back this week to put on the final coat of stucco and then it is up to me to pick a paint color.....which leads me to another question....
The paint color will also be going on the house. I am thinking a sage green. The trim on the house is white, and the doors will be a glossy dark gun metal grey....almost black. I am also toying with the idea of black and white striped awnings.
But I am now torn. I was talking to a friend and she said she likes the house the color it is now (a kind of light beige, almost an off-white). I thought I was pretty well decided, but her comment got me thinking. Perhaps I should look revisit the paint color. Here is the house today:
Thoughts???

No sense in wasting time and money. I think the color is beautiful. Save the other color for a needed painting.
As for the dorn issue - that started for me 3 move ins ago. It doesn't get much better in later years!
Have a nice day.
Teresa
I like the off white. You can always paint the door the gunmetal gray for a change.
Oh, I adore the sage colour. It would sit in the landscape with such elegance.
put some color on it girl. I'm feeling the gray
As lovely as it is now.. it will look AMAZING with the colors you chose. Love the sage grey and dark door. So awesome. Do it, do it, do it! :-D
I think the new color would be simply stunning and would give the house much more presence from the street. It's lovely as is but I think even more stunning in the new color. Good luck!!
My vote is for the color sage-white-gunmetal gray combination you've chosen. It looks fantastic.
Go with the colors you selected. They are very sophisticated and up to date. Everyone will know a designer lives there!
go black. it's wonderful with all your white trim
Hi SS! I am thinking much more about the college move than anything else at the moment. It is tough!
Hi Sherry-
This is why I am having second thoughts/ Maybe some black trim with a red door....Hmmm.
Hi Pamela-
The sage green would definitely look the best in the backyard. Much cooler in our 100 degree summer weather.
Elizabeth and Momma- I can hardly wait to get color on it! The process takes much longer when it is a DIY fitting in between the day job. But we are getting there!
Thanks Franci and Boxwood (BTW...boxwood is just about my favorite garden plant.)
Thanks Design in the Woods....I think it will work!

Funny you should say that! Grant Gibson wrote a blog about black houses in San Francisco recently, and many of them looked spectacular. Black will definitely be in the mix. Now you've got me thinking.
I think what you have chosen is absolutely beautiful and with the sage green, white and gray just think how all of your plantings, like a beautiful purple, pink etc will look blooming, all the colors will just pop!!! Ah yes, I know how you are feeling with the a child going into college, my daughter is applying soon and I am already getting stressed out!!
Have you ever thought about all white? then again, I'm partial to it for exteriors, but your house is so stately with the columns and trim, it would be so beautiful! You could do a gunmetal or black door. You can't go wrong - the sage would be really pretty too.
Your house has such great bones - what curb appeal! That I think either combo would look great. Go with your gut instinct. You can always repaint if you hate it.
Good luck....and I love a fountain!!
Change is good! The colors look nice now however greatness is just around the next bend... go color!
Hi Katie, I love your new color choices. I have a similar base color to your sage selection (mine is "serene thoughts") on mine with cream and black accents. I have awnings that are blk with white piping. I've had no less than 12 people stop to ask the color. We have some great looky loo ideas here in Pasadena area. Beautiful home, beautiful blog.
I love your new color choices, but it looks great now too. It will be hard to go wrong! xo
Fabulous! Now I want the scoop on what a designer picks for dorm room decor! Best, Kate
I love green although lately there are so many homes painted either green or the restoration hardware sage, so I'm kinda over it. Also the black door look in homes is getting a little old as well. I love the idea of another color on the door and either keep your current house color or choose something other than sage. I love the black house idea though, so exciting. Whatever you decide your home will still have such lovely architecture.
We love the current colors, but the new colors you were thinking about would look beautiful too! The answer lies within... are you ready for change?
E+J
I am loving the change, and when you said black and white striped awnings my heart stopped, ok that is a bit dramatic, but truly would look so amazing, go for it!!!!! Kathysue
E & J are so smart...the "are you ready for a change" question says it all.
Personally...I love the sage green idea with the darker accents...but only if you're ready! ;)
You are so talented in all that you design and choose, it will be stunning which-ever direction you go!
Best, J~
Go with your gut Katie!
Cheers,
Claudia
Love your home inside and out!
Consider a gray owl or a wolf grey - the trim would pop....think about a slab of marble....white, gray, black...can you see it?
I love the stripe and the high gloss black....
maybe I need to sketch it for you....
and the fountain too....
do a fun tile, a stripe, or a zebra pattern~

what color is the roof? If it is red, then the sage will be perfect! one always has to think from top to bottom!

You have a gorgeous home and a gorgeous backyard! The colors are perfect also. Lovely!
