GIVE AWAY! Playful Home

A new book for those who like to play, whether you are young, or simply young at heart has recently come out called Playful Home. Rizzoli is famous for their design books. I have a million of 'em. And this one is just as fun as it it promises. It is full of clever ideas for a life filled with kids.

Author, Andrew Weaving stocks this book full of creative design solutions for kids and how to integrate fun into all areas of the home.

He starts us off with a section on Boys' rooms. Every boy is different, but all of them have things they are passionate about. A room should reflect them and make it easy for them to enjoy what they love, whether it be skateboarding, or playing the drums....or both....

And aren't bunk beds often part of the plan? There are many ideas for them to be found in Playful Home....

Girls' rooms get equal attention. Who says that cowboys are only for boys?!

I loved this vintage take on a girl's room with a modern twist. Repainted furniture and vintage wallpaper are so much fun with the yellow chair...

There is a whole section on Patterns and Designs. Bold murals and graphic patterns are a fantastic way to rev up a room without making a over the top financial commitment. After all, penguins may be in this year but so last year by next year....

And pattern doesn't always have to be on a wall. A colorful screen can be a great way to add punch and do double duty to make a space flexible......

Another section of the books deals with display and storage. Many of my clients have questions about how to store and display their kids' toys and artful creations. Playful Home is full of creative solutions. I love these shallow shelves for a collection of dromedaries in this space. It could just as well be baseballs, dolls or matchbox cars.....

Inside the house is all well and good, but what kid doesn't love to be outdoors? Another section is devoted to outdoor structures, playhouses, tree houses, and yes....tepees....

The balance of the book is all about a number of homes devoted to the younger set of the family. There are about five homes that are shown top to bottom illustrating that a heart can stay young and creative everywhere in the house. Sophistication does not have to be stuffy....
