I was visiting the Walker Zanger Showroom at the San Francisco Design Center recently.....the company that comes out with gorgeous and creative new tile lines on a regular basis...you know the ones. While there, I happened upon an amazing artisan I was not yet familiar with by the name of Nathan Hunt. Nathan Hunt is a master carver and architectural sculptor who began his career at the young age of 15 and has worked on such projects as the Princess Diana Memorial, Westminster Abbey, and Exeter Cathedral. Are you intrigued?
Nathan heads up Hunt Studios where he has assembled an amazing group of skilled artisans who carry out projects all over the world. I got to see a very small thimble full of what they have accomplished.....

Nathan was demonstrating his skill and craftsmanship in transforming stone into beautiful works of art. The products he had on hand were examples of stone used as tile and architectural surfacing. What he could not show us during his presentation were the amazing monumental sculptures and architectural installations for which his company is known.
But what Nathan had brought with him was enough in that moment to strike a bit of awe into my heart. I especially liked the sort of art deco era feather shaped tiles and how they were carved into panels like the one above, as well as the individual tiles....
I hope you take a hop on over to Nathan's website and take moment to meet the team at Hunt Studios and learn just how much talent they have all fit into one studio.
Rock on Nathan!
